PPP 21: What it was like running 100km! What I ate, chaffing and digging deep

A couple of days ago I ran the 100km Tarawera Ultramarathon here in New Zealand! It was incredible and such a massive learning experience so I thought it would be cool to share the experience with you. This is a super casual conversation where I talk about my lead up to the run, how the run went down, what I ate, chaffing, pacers and what I learnt about myself. I hope you enjoy this more casual episode and you're inspired to get out there and challenge yourself! Subscribe and Leave a Review on iTunes! PPP 14: Thought for food hosts on being a plant-based athlete, exercise addiction and being yourself

This week I bring you the hosts of the empire known as Thought for Food (TFF) Jackson and Aaron. Their bromance has grown into an incredible platform made up of the TFF podcast and Youtube channel. Now lets face it, the pioneering plant-based doctors are incredible but we can all admit they're not exactly exciting. That's where Jackson and Aaron are different - they dive deep into the science of plant-based nutrition and exercise, but they make it funny, relatable, understandable and just super chill. There podcast fills a big gap in this plant-based movement and having listened from the start it's one of my favourite podcasts. This is a great conversation, we talk about their podcast, being an athlete on a plant-based diet, exercise addiction, lab grown meat and much more. PPP 13: Getting real with authenticity, honesty and the subtle art of not giving a f**k

This week I stray from the conventional and bring you a raw, inspiring, funny, real and honest conversation with two friends. With no planning or direction we sat down for a conversation that evolved into discussing what it really means to be authentic and honest to yourself and those around you. I love this topic, and exploring ways to be more true to yourself is the purpose of this platform. So sit back, relax and enjoy this conversation with my main man Tian Tan and Mitchell Kwan. 5. SOW 4: 10 minute guided meditation for tapping into your higher self

SOW 4: 10 minute guided meditation for tapping into your higher self

Note: The guided meditation starts 6min45secs in So a few weeks ago I recorded a podcast called 'How to bring mindfulness into 2017' but I realised what's the point of telling someone how to do something without giving them the resources. So that's what this SOW is, it's an easy, short, guided beginners meditation on how to dig a bit deeper and tap into your higher self. If you find the idea of 'higher-self', candles and incense a bit too much then you're really missing out on where meditation can take you. So trust me and give this a chance, get comfortable, breath and come along for the journey. Subscribe and Leave a Review on iTunes! PPP 42: Running 70,000km around the world: Lisa Tamati on becoming an ultra runner and resilience

Since 1997 Lisa has run in over 130 ultra-marathons, totaling over 70,000km in racing and training or two and half times around the world. It’s safe to say that Lisa Tamati is New Zealand’s most accomplished and prolific ultra-runner, if not one of the best in the world. Running the 135-mile Badwater race in death valley twice, running the length of New Zealand and 222km through the Himalayas, the list goes on and on. In this episode, Lisa shares her story of a life of experiences which built her to be a human who could not only tolerate but thrive under intense pain and challenge. We discuss the good and bad parts of what it takes to achieve such intense goals. But like every Kiw,i Lisa is a genuine, good-hearted being and that’s what I loved most about this conversation and her stories. If you aren’t already yet you will be inspired by this conversation and learn how you can apply resilience in your own life take on your version of an ultra. PPP 32: Adam Sud: Overcoming drug and fast-food addiction with a plant based diet!

Adam Sud! He is one of the most humble, genuine and friendly people I’ve had on the podcast, and I don’t say that lightly. Adam has always been this person, but when he hit 30 he was severely depressed, addicted to drugs, a slave to fast food and weighed 300 pounds. After an over dose he finally reached out, admitted responsibility for his life and started chasing the uncomfortable rather than comfort which had him scraping rock bottom. The catalyst for this? A whole food plant based diet. I thought I was passionate about this but Adam takes it to the next level. He is an incredible example of the power of plants. Not for just making you healthy but for completely reshaping your mindset. I am so grateful for Adam that I can share our conversation. In this episode we talk about: - Cinnamon - His food and drug addiction journey - How he found his way up from rock bottom - Running - How a wholefood plant based diet saved his life - Why be believes the all-in approach is best - Why people only make changes when they hit rock bottom - How we can spread healthy eating to poorer communities - Understanding addiction - His current job as a holistic lifestyle coach Show notes: Adam Sud Instagram: @plantbasedaddict Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/adam.sud.5 Books mentioned: - How Not to Die - Michael Greger: https://nutritionfacts.org/book/ - The Engine 2 Seven-Day Rescue Diet – Rip Esselstyn: http://bit.ly/2pw8dOM  - Protienaholic – Garth Davis: http://proteinaholic.com - Micro biome solution – Robynne Chutkan: http://bit.ly/2qnBWJF - Cheese trap - Neal Barnard: http://amzn.to/2plIbiK - Sirens of Titan – Kurt Vonngut Subscribe and Leave a Review on iTunes! PPP 47: David DC Cordtz is challenging the vegan stereotype with plant-based muscle

I once heard that if you are trying to find your purpose, your mission in life, then you should look back at what you loved doing as a child and that will give you guidance. Davids story is a perfect example of this. Growing up in a rough neighbourhood - surrounded by a culture of drugs, alcohol gangs and abuse it would of been easy to fall in-line. But at a young age and spurred on by his brothers success in Rugby David was motivated to break from the stereotype and make something of himself. Thats where at a young age he found a love for moving his body through martial arts. It wasn't until a alter age that he rediscovered this love and he started the epic transformation of becoming the calisthenics warrior he he today and on top of that he's plant-based, need I say more. In this conversation David shares his journey, what calisthenics is and how he fuels his plant powered body. I am so grateful that this week I got to sit down for a conversation with Doug Hay from Rock Creek Runner and No Meat Athlete. Doug is an awesome, authentic and relatable guy who loves running and helping others to love running. Since he ran his first marathon and got on board with Matt Frazier of No Meat Athlete, he’s ran three 100-milers, winning one, and he’s started his own coaching business and website. Being an ultra runner myself, we have a great conversation about why he loves running, how he gets through the hard times in a race, why he decided to take the leap and start his own business and how he finds that a plant-based lifestyle and mindfulness has influenced his life. Enjoy! Note: Unfortunately the audio gets a bit crackly half way in, I apologise for this but it's still listenable and I'm still learning! PPP 31 Woman Talk: A deep dive into periods, natural birth control, shaving and more

First off males, listen to this you’ll learn a lot! Secondly the aim of this podcast is to expand your knowledge and beliefs. We should be constantly growing and questioning our values. This is done by challenging norms and thinking outside the box. This week we do that. I bring on my partner Rosalie to talk about her journey from doing what society expected her to do, to completely reevaluating and then flipping her beliefs and practices. Her basis is to live more inline and more naturally with her body. This has meant she has gone vegan, started using a menstrual cup, uses a natural birth control method, stopped shaving and wearing make-up. In this episode we talk about that and specifically we challenge the stigma around periods and why you should consider a using a cup. We take a deep dive into using the pill for birth control and why Rosalie now uses a natural form of birth control. Rosalie offer her experience and I back it up with science. PPP 29: Dr William Peters: On a new puzzle piece in the theory of evolution

So, get ready for your mind to be blown and also get ready for some science. If this doesn’t sound like you then please stick around because I am certain you will still love this. This week’s conversation is with Dr. William Peters a New Zealand born heart surgeon, and, I’m sure he would agree, a crazy experimenter who likes playing with vacuum hoses to revolutionize the theory of human evolution. Born in New Zealand William became a heart surgeon and after helping pioneer key hole heart surgery he found himself at Stanford University where he developed a heart-assist device. After spending sometime in Australia he found himself back in New Zealand with a new idea and theory which has now been peer reviewed and published and is what you are about to be blown away by today. I won’t get into the theory here, but please scroll down to the show notes where you can see pictures and read about it before listening to the podcast, I highly recommend this. Theory aside, William is one of the nicest and most genuine people I’ve had on the podcast, you will love this conversation and how it relates to connection we share together and with the environment. Today I sit down with David Tong, former lawyer current climate activist to talk climate change. Growing up with parents who were anti-nuclear activists here in New Zealand, so David was primed for a life of fighting for what he believed in. After experiencing the ride of corporate and criminal law he soon found himself consumed in the world of the global climate change negotiations. David knows what he is talking about when it comes to climate change. Having him on is a perfect opportunity to dispel confusions and myths around it and to go back to basics and describe what climate change is, what are it's effects, what we are doing to mitigate it, why nations have been negotiating it for 20+ years and how real change needs to take place. This conversation will give you the tools to properly understand climate change but more importantly it will give you reason to have hope. I have said multiple times that the goal of this podcast is to provide you with experiences, information, insight and knowledge in order to expand your mind and help you grow emotionally, spiritually and mentally to be the best version of yourself for you and the rest of the world. I believe part of this growth is always challenging your beliefs, views and values by having an open mind and accepting that you don’t know everything. My conversation with Rudo does this and I ask you to enter with an open mind and accept that although you might not be used to the topics we discuss, it is an opportunity for you to learn and grow. We have an incredible conversation where we delve into many topics. We talk about: - The rationality of science vs. the acceptance of spirituality - How the moon influences our mind and bodies - How energetic healing works - How eating animal flesh alters your consciousness - What your inner child is and how you and look after it - What open relationships are - Why we need to break from the box of monogamous relationships - How open relationships work - Why we are sensual beings Show Notes: Rudo: Website: https://rudorudorudo.wordpress.com Instagram: @rudorudorudo Subscribe and Leave a Review on iTunes! 19. PPP 38: Approaching a zero-waste lifestyle

PPP 38: Approaching a zero-waste lifestyle

If you listen to this podcast then you are probably mindful about the impact you are having on the planet and you do your best to reduce it. Somehow though a lot of us still find it really heart to reduce the amount of waste we are producing, including us. But if, like us, you care about the environment, animals and your health, you can make a really big difference by being mindful about the waste you are producing. Now I could throw some mind blowing states at you, but we all know that every year a ridiculously large amount of waste ends up in landfills and in our environment. Due to a raft of reasons like a lack of corporate regulations, businesses focusing on their bottom line and corporations not having to pay for the impact they have on the environment, we have created a consumerist society which values convenience and thrives off ignorance. Now we could get into all of that, but what we are more interested in is how we can make personal changes, how we can create a grass roots movement of people who are tired of the status quo and want to take action into their own hands. That’s were zero-waste comes in, it is a growing movement of people who are dedicated to making behavioral changes to reduce the amount of waste being pumped onto our planet. In this podcast we explore what it means to be zero-waste and we share the easy and practical steps we have taken to reduce our waste and how you can do it do. We are by no means perfect but we are doing our best and felt inspired to share with you how you can easily make a difference. Because at the end of the day we all care, we just need the incentive and education to start.
