PPP 21: What it was like running 100km! What I ate, chaffing and digging deep

A couple of days ago I ran the 100km Tarawera Ultramarathon here in New Zealand! It was incredible and such a massive learning experience so I thought it would be cool to share the experience with you. This is a super casual conversation where I talk about my lead up to the run, how the run went down, what I ate, chaffing, pacers and what I learnt about myself. I hope you enjoy this more casual episode and you're inspired to get out there and challenge yourself! Subscribe and Leave a Review on iTunes! PPP 47: David DC Cordtz is challenging the vegan stereotype with plant-based muscle

I once heard that if you are trying to find your purpose, your mission in life, then you should look back at what you loved doing as a child and that will give you guidance. Davids story is a perfect example of this. Growing up in a rough neighbourhood - surrounded by a culture of drugs, alcohol gangs and abuse it would of been easy to fall in-line. But at a young age and spurred on by his brothers success in Rugby David was motivated to break from the stereotype and make something of himself. Thats where at a young age he found a love for moving his body through martial arts. It wasn't until a alter age that he rediscovered this love and he started the epic transformation of becoming the calisthenics warrior he he today and on top of that he's plant-based, need I say more. In this conversation David shares his journey, what calisthenics is and how he fuels his plant powered body. PPP 39: Matt Frazier: Founder of No Meat Athlete on his journey and creating a movement

I remember about 4 years ago stumbling across the No Meat Athlete (NMA) website when I first started getting into vegetarianism and running. For me it was an invaluable resource of un-judgmental and undogmatic information. Fast forward to now and No Meat Athlete is a global movement a global community of like-minded individuals. From the blog to the podcast to the running groups and the new cook book there is a plethora of information out there for new and curious or veteran vegetarian or vegan. What defines Matt and his movement apart is the authenticity and genuine drive that facilitates what NMA is today. In our conversation we discuss how Matt believes in taking the long hard route to achieving his goals and how this has led to his success. This conversation is about his journey into a plant-based lifestyle, how he built NMA. It's about following your dreams and learning the hard way. We also talk about his views on spirituality and where he gets his inspiration from. PPP 29: Dr William Peters: On a new puzzle piece in the theory of evolution

So, get ready for your mind to be blown and also get ready for some science. If this doesn’t sound like you then please stick around because I am certain you will still love this. This week’s conversation is with Dr. William Peters a New Zealand born heart surgeon, and, I’m sure he would agree, a crazy experimenter who likes playing with vacuum hoses to revolutionize the theory of human evolution. Born in New Zealand William became a heart surgeon and after helping pioneer key hole heart surgery he found himself at Stanford University where he developed a heart-assist device. After spending sometime in Australia he found himself back in New Zealand with a new idea and theory which has now been peer reviewed and published and is what you are about to be blown away by today. I won’t get into the theory here, but please scroll down to the show notes where you can see pictures and read about it before listening to the podcast, I highly recommend this. Theory aside, William is one of the nicest and most genuine people I’ve had on the podcast, you will love this conversation and how it relates to connection we share together and with the environment. PPP 32: Adam Sud: Overcoming drug and fast-food addiction with a plant based diet!

Adam Sud! He is one of the most humble, genuine and friendly people I’ve had on the podcast, and I don’t say that lightly. Adam has always been this person, but when he hit 30 he was severely depressed, addicted to drugs, a slave to fast food and weighed 300 pounds. After an over dose he finally reached out, admitted responsibility for his life and started chasing the uncomfortable rather than comfort which had him scraping rock bottom. The catalyst for this? A whole food plant based diet. I thought I was passionate about this but Adam takes it to the next level. He is an incredible example of the power of plants. Not for just making you healthy but for completely reshaping your mindset. I am so grateful for Adam that I can share our conversation. In this episode we talk about: - Cinnamon - His food and drug addiction journey - How he found his way up from rock bottom - Running - How a wholefood plant based diet saved his life - Why be believes the all-in approach is best - Why people only make changes when they hit rock bottom - How we can spread healthy eating to poorer communities - Understanding addiction - His current job as a holistic lifestyle coach Show notes: Adam Sud Instagram: @plantbasedaddict Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/adam.sud.5 Books mentioned: - How Not to Die - Michael Greger: https://nutritionfacts.org/book/ - The Engine 2 Seven-Day Rescue Diet – Rip Esselstyn: http://bit.ly/2pw8dOM  - Protienaholic – Garth Davis: http://proteinaholic.com - Micro biome solution – Robynne Chutkan: http://bit.ly/2qnBWJF - Cheese trap - Neal Barnard: http://amzn.to/2plIbiK - Sirens of Titan – Kurt Vonngut Subscribe and Leave a Review on iTunes! 9. PPP 49: The power of meditation, yoga and plants for mastering depression w/ Gus Wood

PPP 49: The power of meditation, yoga and plants for mastering depression w/ Gus Wood

This week I bring you an incredibly raw and real conversation with Gus Wood about his journey to stepping into his truth, his purpose. There is a lot of talk about inspiration, motivation and the incredible levels at which humans can thrive and achieve. Over the last little while though, I have really learnt a lot about the human experience and that it is important to talk about the times when we struggle - the dark times. It is through sharing our vulnerabilities, owning them and reflecting on them that we are able to connect as humans and see the humanity in all of us. Sometimes it's not exciting, it's not the sexy stuff but it's reality. And the beautiful part is that through sharing we can inspire and give people the means and drive to find their truth. So that’s what this podcast is – it's a story of dealing with the challenges of depression and how through simple techniques like yoga, meditation, breath and plants Gus was able to face his own reality. I am so honored and have great respect to Gus for sharing so please enjoy this conversation and if you connect with it, then reach out. Much love. 11. PPP 54 - How healing the gut can heal the mind with Nick Corliss

PPP 54 - How healing the gut can heal the mind with Nick Corliss

This week in Aotearoa is Mental Health Awareness week – where we take the time to highlight and talk about a topic which should be a mainstay in our culture. But it's not, in fact we avoid it. The fact is that simply because you are a human and you exist you are going to experience thoughts, emotions and feelings both good and bad. We aren’t taught how to deal with this seemingly random, irrational flow of thoughts or taught that it's normal, so when it gets dark we think we are broken. How do we shift the reality of people experiencing this?! Well we talk about it of course, we share our stories, we make it the norm to express how you are feeling and know you are ok. That is why this week I am so grateful and blessed to bring my friend Nick Corliss on to open up for the first time publicly and share his mental health story. Nick was experiencing pretty extreme levels of anxiety and depression – to the point where he wanted to leave, for good. But through a combination of changing his diet – which healed his leaky gut and meditation he was able to completely shift his mental health. Today I share that story with you with the hope that it helps you or someone you know struggling with their mental health. Please if you are struggling reach out – you are a beautiful human being simply because you exist. You are loved and cared for and there is a way out. There is someone out there who has experienced what you are experiencing. PPP 22: Nic Heatherington & Amie Berghan Paulet: The true cost of fast fashion & making a difference

Usually on this podcast we talk about the importance and power of a plant-based diet, for ourselves, the planet and animals. Two individuals who are not only extremely knowledgeable about this but also so infectiously passionate and purpose driven! We talk about: - Exactly what fast fashion is - The impacts it's having - Their work in the field - How to approach being more conscious about fashion - How you can make achievable changes by starting where you're at Honestly I have NEVER spoken to two such passionate and caring people so please enjoy this conversation, I hope you learn something from it! This week I bring you the hosts of the empire known as Thought for Food (TFF) Jackson and Aaron. Their bromance has grown into an incredible platform made up of the TFF podcast and Youtube channel. Now lets face it, the pioneering plant-based doctors are incredible but we can all admit they're not exactly exciting. That's where Jackson and Aaron are different - they dive deep into the science of plant-based nutrition and exercise, but they make it funny, relatable, understandable and just super chill. There podcast fills a big gap in this plant-based movement and having listened from the start it's one of my favourite podcasts. PPP 60: Jackson Foster is living free and why the most important thing is presence

If you’ve been following Plant Power for awhile you will remember that about a year and a half ago I cycled with Jackson foster and two others from Chang Man to Singapore. After spending a considerable amount of time with the master of Plantriotic we got very close - and not many people know this but he is the reason I was able to believe in myself and start Plant Power. So you can imagine my excitement when after riding 780km up America I got to spend 24 hours with my brother and for 2 of those hours we sat down, got deep and discussed some of the fundamentals of life. We talk in depth about Jacksons indefinite bike tour from Alaska to South American. We go into how he’s transformed over the last few years and whats important to him now This one is a goodie, we don’t hold back - I am honoured to capture a moment in Jacksons life to share with you. Arriving back home he has catalysed a further transformation of belief within myself, he just has that affect on people. 18. PPP 02: Colin Steeples - From father to son

PPP 02: Colin Steeples - From father to son

This week’s guest is a special one - this conversation is about a life story, an insight, a look into the journey the life of a typical human being. What makes him interesting is he has his own unique story to tell spanning over 64 years and several countries, eras and experiences. He’s also my dad. Unbeknownst to him his story is an eventful, exciting whirlwind of life in Africa, the hippie era, Rock’n’roll, drugs, near escapes, multiple countries, spiritual experiences, and endless stories, which in his words make him feel lucky to be alive. What did he learn from this? Well one thing, no matter what situation you face, no matter how bad things can get, it will always work itself out in the end. But one other thing, after an exciting life of living on the edge he found himself overweight, facing a dangerously high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, bowel issues and wondering where is health went. Well when his doctor prescribed him some drugs and told him to cut back on the sweets he thought there has to be a better way. And slowly but surely he found it, nudged along by yours truly he found himself shifting to a plant-based diet. 18 months later his cholesterol is that of a young man, diabetes is a speck in the rear mirror, he’s dropped 9kg and he’s found a new passion out on the bike every weekend and practices yoga every week. So you’re typical human being? I think not. Come along for the ride in experiencing the life of Colin. I think this conversation has to potential to influence all ages and walks of life. So get comfortable whatever you are doing, plugin and come along and see what you learn. Enjoy. Leave a review on iTunes! Follow Me!
