WHAT IS "IN OUR BLOOD?"
IN OUR BLOOD is a compilation of Filipina/o American Poetry and Spoken Word from Los Angeles. This debut collection of poetry and spoken word selections include community activist and LA Enkanto co-founder, Cheryl Deptowicz, performance artist Alison De La Cruz, LA Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture Balagtasan Poetry Slam founding Coordinator, Faith Santilla and past winners, LA Enkanto co-founder, Dorian Sanae Merina (1999) and Zero 3 member Edren Sumagaysay (2000), Puro Arte co-founder, Napoleon Lustre, Some Misplaced Joan of Arc 'zine Editress, Marjorie Light, literary events coordinator, Irene Suico Soriano, Poorhouse Projekts member, Alfie Ebojo, editrix of LA-based literary magazines, Rebecca Baroma, Wordsmiths/Performers KIWI and Jose "Flipchild" Saenz and musical selections by activist/singer Aquilina Soriano and the indie band, TULIS (Jenny San Angel & Gertie Meza). The CD artwork was designed by LA Enkanto and IsangMahal Arts Kollective co-founder and visual artist, Jamie Ardena and the liner notes were written by LA Enkanto co-founder and poet, Allan Aquino. IN OUR BLOOD is the newest addition to the growing number of poetry and spoken word CD collections promoting Filipina/o American talent released in the US in the last 5 years. The CD contains a diverse range of tracks that will affect, inspire, entertain, and touch a wide palette of emotions and political sentiments.
WHAT ABOUT LA ENKANTO ARTS KOLLECTIVE?
LA ENKANTO was founded by a group of Filipina/o American writers and activists who attended/participated in last year's NEA funded and inter-ethnic community led WORLD BEYOND POETRY FESTIVAL. Since it's inception, LA Enkanto has dedicated itself to supporting and promoting the artistic talents and activism of poets and spoken word artists from Los Angeles.
